BUFFALO — A 44-year-old Buffalo man was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for his role in the shooting death of his friend.

According to Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr., Michael Greer, aka “Peanut,” fatally shot his friend, 33-year old Michael Atkins of Buffalo during an argument while celebrating Greer’s birthday on Sept. 10 while in his home on Orange Street.

In April, Greer pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree in the shooting death of his friend.
