TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Three Niagara County beaches are closed today due to potential health concerns, according to the Niagara County Department of Health.

Olcott Beach has been labeled as “unsafe to swim” by the health department, while Barker’s Camp Kenan Beach is listed as “closed.” Also closed is the inland Niagara Lazy Lakes Campground beach.

According to the health department, beaches are posted unsafe to swim or closed when water tests show unacceptable levels of E. Coli bacteria present. The beach may also be unsafe because of floating debris, oil, excessive weed growth, bad odors and general turbidity. Swimming in these waters could cause infections of the ear, eye, nose throat and skin as well as cause diarrhea if the water is ingested.

Beach waters are tested by the Niagara County Department of Health throughout the summer.
