MIDDLEBURY — A 56-year-old man and 50-year-old woman was charged Monday with first-degree false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child — accused of repeatedly chaining the woman’s 16-year-old family member to his bed.
New York State Police say that they had been called to the home of Shirley Sherwood and George Colton at 1604 Blackhouse Road for a complaint of “an uncontrollable 16-year-old.” When they arrived, they found that Sherwood and Colton had used a 15-foot dog chain and three padlocks to lock the teen to the bed during the night and at other times.
Sherwood and Colton were both charged and arraigned in Town of Warsaw Court then remanded to the Wyoming County Jail. They are scheduled to return to Middlebury Court later this month.
