LOCKPORT — Artists are invited to try their hand at creating chalk art at the annual Sweet Chalk Festival July 16-17, hosted by Lockside Art Center at Pine and Main streets.

The annual event brings together local, regional and national artists in downtown Lockport. Accepted artists are assigned squares of up to 9 feet by 12 feet. There is no theme for the event, but nudes, politics and religion are not allowed. There are a number of prizes available and a stipend for accepted artists.

For those new to the medium, a chalk art workshop will be held by award-winning chalk artist Joe Mahley on July 2 or 3.
