BUFFALO — Outspoken Buffalo School Board member Developer Carl Paladino appears to have narrowly defeated his 18-year-old opponent Austin Harig in unofficial results from Park District, according to the Erie County Board of Elections, while fellow incumbent Jason McCarthy was soundly defeated by Hope Jay in the city’s North District.

Paladino received 1,543 votes to Harig’s 1,436 — a 107-vote victory. The Park District race, however, has 140 absentee ballots uncounted, meaning there is still a mathematical possibility Harig could have won. Hope received 2,236 votes to McCarthy’s 1,873. The 18 absentee ballots are not nearly enough to make a difference.

  • In the Central District, Paulette Woods defeated Byron McIntrye by a 1207-932 tally.
  • In the East District, Theresa A. Harris-Tigg won with 846 votes. There were 288 “other ballots” cast. A write-in campaign had been mounted by Patricia Elliot.
  • In the Ferry District, Sharon M. Belton-Cottman received 1186 votes, compared to 187 “other ballots” cast.
  • In the West District, Jennifer L. Mecozzi won with 904 votes compared to 395 “other ballots,” presumably cast for write-in candidate James Sampson, who currently holds the seat.

All results are unofficial until certified.
