CLARENCE — Three Ohio men were charged Sunday in connection with a burglary ring throughout the towns of Clarence and Amherst.

Authorities from the New York State Police stationed in Clarence, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Amherst Police Department had been working together to investigate the rash of daytime burglaries dating back to the beginning of April.  In several of the incidents, the homes were forcibly entered and electronics, jewelry, tools, and other items were taken.  While conducting neighborhood surveillance in Clarence, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) located three suspects who were ultimately charged in connection to the break-ins.

The suspects arrested are Shane A. Edington Sr. 44, Shane A. Edington, Jr. 17, and Christopher A. Compton 25, all charged with criminal possession of stolen property, burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, and criminal mischief.  Edington, Jr. was also charged with false personation after he initially provided Troopers with a false name.

Subsequent to being arrested, authorities located a large amount of stolen items that were taken during the commission of the crimes. The trio were arraigned in Clarence Court and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the case and more charges are pending. Victims have been working with law enforcement to identify their personal property.
