ROCHESTER — A new documentary on Frederick Douglass will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the George Eastman Museum, 900 East Ave.

The film,“Rediscovering Frederick Douglass,” that tells the story of how a photograph of famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass — not seen for more than a century — was rediscovered, and explores the ways Douglass used photography as a tool in the fight for social reform.

This event is free and open to the public.

After the film, Eastman Museum photography curators Heather Shannon and Jamie Allen and technology curator Todd Gustavson will discuss how the photograph was created and preserved. Following the discussion, guests will be able to explore the museum’s current exhibitions, including A History of Photography: Exploring Black History and Culture. City Historian Christine Ridarsky will display the found photograph in the museum’s Potter Peristyle, and be available for questions.
