OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Nicholas Kratholm is one of 30 NCAA Division I men’s basketball student-athletes selected as a candidate for the 2020-21 Senior Class Award announced on Monday.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Kratholm, a native of Louisville, Ky., is in his second season with the Purple Eagles where he has played in over 40 games. This season, Kratholm has started in every game while averaging career-highs in points and rebounds, and he picked up his first career double-double.

Kratholm holds a 3.53 grade-point average and has made the Dean’s list every semester. He also is studying in the Niagara University Microbiology Lab on a research project with a focus on discovering and studying bacteriophages and their effectiveness to treat MRSA and other bacteria resistant bacteria. He will earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Bio-Technology this spring and plans to attend medical school.

The men’s and women’s candidates will be narrowed to two fields of ten finalists in late February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C’s of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men’s Final Four® and NCAA Women’s Final Four® this spring.
