PRESS RELEASE
Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency is now accepting applications for grants for its Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Program. The window for applications closes on Friday, December 21st at 5:00pm.
More information about FP&S Program Grants can be found at FEMA’s website, https://www.fema.gov/fire-prevention-safety-grants. Features include key programmatic updates and application requirements as well as an application checklist and answers to frequently asked questions.
Applicants eligible to apply for the FP&S activity grant are fire departments; and national, state, regional, local, tribal, territorial, or nonprofit organizations that are recognized for their experience with fire prevention, safety programs and activities.
Funding for the FP&S Program is through the Assistance Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. In 2018, $350 million is allocated for the AFG initiative. Of that, $35 million dollars is appropriated for the FP&S Grant Program, which targets projects and programs that mitigate incidences of death and injuries caused by fire among high-risk populations including children, seniors and firefighters.
Applicants with questions or in need technical assistance can contact the FP&S grant help desk at 1-866-274-0960 or via e-mail at firegrants@fema.dhs.gov.
