French Consul General Jérémie Robert will present the Ordre national du Merite to Old Fort Niagara’s Executive Director Robert Emerson in ceremonies at 3 p.m. July 28.

Emerson is receiving the honor in recognition of two decades of work preserving French history in the Great Lakes region. The Ordre national du Mérite (National Order of Merit) is a French order of merit with membership awarded by the President of the French Republic.

In other news from Fort Niagara, the facility has been awarded $75,000 from New York State Parks and Trails in support of the fort’s restoration work on the North and South Redoubts.

Funding will repoint the stone structures, which were built in the 1770s. Senior officials from Parks and Trails New York, The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and elected leaders will be present at the event.
