BUFFALO — A 29-year-old South Wales man was arraigned on sex offense charges earlier this week, accused of forcibly engaging in oral sexual conduct with a child under the age of 15, according to Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr.
Dejay Burdic was charged with first-degree criminal sex act, second-degree criminal sex act, and endangering the welfare of a child. Burdic pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the district attorney’s office, Burdic has an extensive criminal history. He is a Level 3 sex offender. In 2008, at the age of 21, he was convicted of second-degree attempted rape and sentenced to an indeterminate sentence of 18-36 months of incarceration. That offense involved a child less than 15 years of age. He was also convicted of a violent felony offense: second degree assault, for which he served two years in jail. Additionally, he has a sexual misconduct conviction from 2009 from the Town of Ashford.
If convicted, Burdic faces a maximum sentence of 10-25 years followed by post-release supervision.
He is being held without bail. He has been in custody since February 2016.
