LEWISTON — A weekend of enchantment begins this afternoon at Artpark with the opening of the Fairy House Festival, repleat with troubadours, circus performers, and the Four Fairy Clans of Earth, Air, Fire and Water costumed by Uta Bekaia.

Performances by Lost Wheels of Time, Estonian street theater group Giraffe Royal and overhead flying fairies by Canada’s Circus Orange occur throughout the Festival, as do activities such as the Fairy House Tour, build your own fairy house, the art gallery fairy house exhibit, and Fairy tea party. Participate in art activities (crown making, potion making, t-shirt silk screening, wing making) and face painting.

The festival runs from 2 to 7 p.m. today and noon to 5 tomorrow.

Today, “as the afternoon melts into dusk,” (about 5 p.m., they say) the secret location of the Fairy Ball will be revealed only to those in attendance.

Sunday, awards will be given in the two fairy house building contests; one in which local groups and organizations have submitted their tiny houses for the Fairy House Tour, the other with submissions by artists.

General admission tickets are $10 for each day, and are available at the gate or through the Artpark website.
