Prior to that, he served as Chairman of the Niagara Parks Commission in Niagara Falls, Ontario; Regional Chairman of the Region of Niagara in Ontario; Regional Councilor in Niagara; and Alderman in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He also was proud to work with his dad in the family’s general insurance business, H.T. Merrett Insurance in Niagara Falls.

Brian leaves his wife, Tracey Merrett (Seddon) and his son, Adam (Angela) and two much loved grandsons, Aiden and Ethan of Mississauga, ON; a step son Jody Major of Lockport, NY; a brother Thomas (Cindy) of British Columbia and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Audrey Merrett, and a brother, Kevin, all of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Brian loved politics, golf, hockey and travel. On the farm, he loved his dogs, ponies, and his farm equipment.
