ROCHESTER — The Rochester Red Wings season isn’t done yet, but they’ve already announced their schedule for the 2017 season.
The Red Wings open 2017 with four games in Syracuse beginning on Opening Day April 6. The Wings will then head down the thruway to Buffalo to face the Bisons in four games from April 10-13. Rochester opens the 2017 home schedule with three games against the Chiefs beginning with the Home Opener on Friday, April 14 at 1:35 p.m. Just three of the first 17 Wings games next season will be played at Frontier Field as Rochester will play just nine home games in April. Rochester ends the season at home, playing the final four games against the Pawtucket Red Sox from September 1-4. The season concludes on Labor Day, 2017 with a 1:35 p.m. matinee.
The International League adopted a 142-game schedule for 2017, meaning each team will play one fewer game at home and on the road next year. The Red Wings have seven off days next season not including the three-game All-Star break. Every Rochester off day falls on a Monday (April 17 & 24, May 1 & 22, June 12, July 31 and August 14).
The longest homestand of the season is seven games and the Wings will have six different homestands of that length. Rochester will play Lehigh Valley 22 games in 2017 and all other division opponents 17 times. The Red Wings will play Easter, Memorial Day and July 4th in 2017. The Wings will play 11 home games on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (46% of home schedule) along with eight Mondays and 10 games on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
