SPRINGVILLE — A community gathering is being held this afternoon to celebrate the life of seven-year-old Alyssa Hearn at 1 p.m. at Pop Warner Field. Today’s gathering will include a mass-release of latex balloons and a candlelight vigil.

The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the Friday afternoon incident in which Hearn was struck and killed by the school bus she had been riding. It happened just before 4 p.m. near the intersection of West Main Street and North Buffalo Street.

A GoFundMe page for the family has so far raised $39,517. Its originally goal was $10,000. That has since been raised to $50,000.
