BUFFALO — With more than 14,000 slots for runners and walkers in the Buffalo Niagara YMCA Turkey Trot, there are less than 300 remaining for the Nov. 24.
Known to be the oldest consecutively run footrace in North America, the Turkey Trot is an 8K race down Delaware Avenue beginning at 9 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.
The $40 registration fee goes to help fund YMCA programs and services for kids and families who would otherwise be unable to afford them. Throughout its history, proceeds raised from the YMCA Turkey Trot have played a vital role in helping youth, families, and seniors access the resources that help them to learn, grow and thrive.
A costume contest will be held at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Delaware Family YMCA. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative individual and group costumes.
The race began in 1896, making this the 121st year of its running.
