Robert A. Bloom of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He was born in Morrisville, PA, on February 1, 1933, the son of the late Reynold and Estella (Jameson) Bloom.
Mr. Bloom graduated from Cooper Township High School in 1951 and moved to Niagara Falls a short time later. He served with the US Army, during the Korean War. Mr. Bloom was a firefighter with the Niagara Falls Fire Department from 1957, until retiring as the Chief of Apparatus in 1985. He received the Levy Brothers Award. Mr. Bloom was a member of the South Wilson Volunteer Fire Company. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and never missed any of their events.
Mr. Bloom is survived by his wife of 57 years Lillian [Mezhir] Bloom, they were married on May 9, 1959, two sons Robert P. Bloom and Eric A. (Tracy) Bloom, three grandchildren Miles, Emily (Ashwat Rishi) and Molly Bloom, one brother Dennis (Jean) Bloom, three sisters Alice (John) Leight, Kathy (Jim) Bernard and Elizabeth Bloom, also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jared Bloom.
His family will be present on Wednesday from 10-12 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 901 Cayuga Street, LEWISTON, NY, where funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Niagara Falls Firefighters Toy Fund or to Niagara Hospice.
Interment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
