The Bulls look for their sixth straight win on Saturday afternoon as they begin a three-game homestand against the Miami RedHawks.  The Bulls are celebrating 100 seasons of men’s basketball during the game as they will be wearing throwback uniforms from the 1950’s.  Around 50 former players will be in attendance at Alumni Arena for the event.

The Bulls placed six players in double figures in Tuesday’s win over Central Michigan: Willie Conner, CJ Massinburg, Blake Hamilton, David Kadiri, Dontay Caruthers, and Nick Perkins. It was the first time this year that Buffalo had six players score in double figures and the first time since Nov. 28, 2015 when UB did it in a win against Canisius.

The Bulls are averaging 89.8 points per game during their current five-game winning streak and are beating opponents by an average of 15.4 points per game.  During the streak, the Bulls are shooting 50.2% from the field, while holding opponents to 41.6%.    UB is also shooting just under 40% from three-point range and it is holding a huge rebounding advantage, averaging 42.8 boards per game, compared to just 32.4 by its opponents.  At least six players are averaging 9.0 points per game during the winning streak.

Miami is 10-16 on the season and 3-10 in conference play following a 76-72 loss at Kent State on Tuesday night.  The RedHawks, who beat the Bulls in the first meeting on a last second free throw on Jan. 24, are still looking for their first road win of the year.

The RedHawks are led by freshman Michael Weathers, who is one of three players averaging in double figures for Miami at 16.8 points per game.  Weathers also leads the RedHawks with 129 assists.  Logan McLane adds 12.6 points per contest and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game, while Michael’s brother Marcus Weathers is averaging 10.0 points per game.

Miami overcame a 16-point first-half deficit against Buffalo in the first meeting between the schools.  Marcus Weathers had a team-high 18 points in the, while Jake Wright came off the bench with 14 points, including hitting four three pointers in the game.  All 10 players scored for Miami in the game, including Dion Wade, who had one point on the game-winning free throw.

John Cooper enters his fifth season at the helm of the Miami University men’s basketball program. Cooper came to Miami after a three-year stint as the head coach at Tennessee State in which he built the program into a formidable force. His 2011-12 TSU squad posted a 20-13 record, the school’s first winning mark since 1995-96 and the Tigers’ first 20-win season in 32 years. Perhaps TSU’s most impressive victory came on Feb. 9 when it defeated seventh-ranked Murray State, 72-68.
