WACO, Texas – The Niagara baseball team dropped a pair of games to Baylor on Saturday.

Game 1: Baylor 6, Niagara 3

Niagara (0-3) got on the board first; in the third inning, with two runners on base, Peter Battaglia singled to left field, sending Wyatt Olson home. The Purple Eagles extended their lead, 2-0, in the fourth inning with a run from Joel Brophy. The Bears, however, stifled Niagara’s lead with a three-run homerun from Aaron Dodson in the fourth. Two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh put Baylor (3-0) comfortably ahead of the Purple Eagles, 6-2. In the eighth, Tanner Kirwer homered to left field for Niagara’s first homerun of the season and final run of the game.

Game 2: Baylor 21, Niagara 6

The Bears jumped out to a quick lead and were ahead of the Purple Eagles 10-0 going into the sixth inning. With two runners on base, Olson hit into a double play, scoring Julian Gallup to put the Purple Eagles on the board. Baylor held Niagara scoreless in the seventh and extended its lead, 15-1. The Purple Eagles offense pulled together in the top of the eighth to score three runs. Kirwer doubled to left field to send Nick Bernick home. Michael Gabriele singled to right field to score Kirwer and Battaglia singled to center, sending home Gabriele. The Bears, however, continued to dominate, scoring six more runs to take a 21-4 lead over Niagara. Niagara continued to battle in the ninth; Kirwer doubled down the left field line to score both Bernick and Joseph Tevlin, but the Bears could not be caught and Baylor came away with the series sweep.

The Purple Eagles head to Virginia for a three-game series with Norfolk State Feb. 25-26.
