BUFFALO — Canisius will proudly host its annual Sports Hall of Fame Induction Day on Sunday, Feb. 26, in conjunction with the men’s basketball team’s final home game of the 2016-17 season. The day will begin with the Induction Brunch at 11 a.m., followed by the formal recognition of the Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016 at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Saint Peter’s.

The Canisius Sports Hall of Fame, which began in 1963, now boasts 192 individual members and five teams with the addition of this year’s group. The Class of 2016, which was formally announced Dec. 5, includes:


• Andrea (Bunten) Skyes ’05 – Softball
• Kevin Downey ’05, MBA ’07 – Men’s Basketball
• Bryan Worosz ’05 – Hockey
• Beck Zak ’06 – Women’s Basketball
• The 1962-63 Men’s Basketball Team



Additionally, James Lauffenburger ’60, PhD, widely considered as the father of modern football at the College, will be presented with the Rev. Paul J. Dugan, S.J., Award, an honor that recognizes individuals for their significant contributions to Canisius athletics.
The Induction Brunch will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., in the Montante Cultural Center. The men’s basketball game against Saint Peter’s is set to tip off at 2 p.m., in the Koessler Athletic Center.
