John E. Stephens of Sanborn, NY,  passed away on Thursday,  March 2, 2017, following a brief illness.

He was born in Bellwood, PA on June 22, 1920, the son of the late John and Lettie [Smith] Stephens.

Mr. Stephens served as a Master Sergeant in the US Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theater. After the war he moved to Cheektowaga in 1947 and became a crane operator with Westinghouse for 33 years, before retiring in 1982. He also lived in Lockport before moving to Sanborn in 1994. Mr. Stephens was an avid sportsmen.

He was the husband of the late Marie [Dunn] and Dorothy [Fowler] Stephens. Mr. Stephens is survived by his son James E. (Lisa) Stephens, two grandchildren Catherine (Patrick) Feldman and David (Stacy) Stephens, three great grandchildren Amanda (Robert) Dix, Declan and Zoe Stephens, three great great grandchildren Jonathan, Faith and Zachary Dix, step father to Onda (Fred) Bennett and Sue Madara and their families, also many nieces and nephews. Mr. Stephens  was the brother of the late Marie, Earl, Paul, George and Kenneth Stephens.

His family will be present on Sunday from 4-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Frank BonGiovanni officiating.

The family extends special gratitude to the staff of the Elderwood Hospice unit.
