BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo has named Abbey Croce and Charlie Sobieraski as its Athletes of the Week.
Croce’s diving success continued as she competed in NCAA Zone Qualifiers. In preliminaries of the three-meter dive, Croce posted a score of 293.30, she improved on that score during the finals to finish with 566.00 points for seventh. Her score landed her in seventh place and allowed her to compete at NCAAs this upcoming week. Croce also posted an overall score of 533.10 on the one-meter dive to qualify for NCAAs. Croce becomes the second female diver in program history to qualify for NCAAs.
Junior right-hander Charlie Sobieraski had his best performance of the season on the mound on Friday afternoon against the #13 Oklahoma Sooners. Despite being handed the loss in the game, Sobieraski was dominant all afternoon against one of the best hitting teams in the country. He finished off his afternoon going 6.0 innings while scattering seven hits, one run and striking out three batters. The one run against was a season-best outing for the righty as he didn’t allow the run until his last inning of work. Sobieraski held the nationally-ranked Sooners to their lowest scoring output of the season, one run, as the potent Oklahoma lineup is averaging 8.1 runs/game so far this season.
