OLEAN — The Niagara baseball team dropped a game to Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure, 7-2, on Wednesday.
St. Bonaventure took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Niagara came back to tie things up, 1-1, in the top of the third. Tanner Kirwer scored on a throwing error by the Bonnies catcher. The Bonnies, however, continued to pick up momentum on offense, scoring once in the bottom of the fourth and tacking on five runs in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the ninth, Niagara tried to even things up with the Bonnies but, despite an RBI single from McCauley, the Purple Eagles fell short.
The Purple Eagles host Quinnipiac for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday. Niagara and the Bobcats will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon and a single game Sunday, also starting at noon.
