Juniors Erica Evans and Jen Reininger, along with sophomore Tessa Chad, led Canisius with four goals each, as the Blue and Gold gained an 18-3 road victory over Monmouth for their sixth consecutive win and 20th straight in regular season conference action. The Griffs are now a perfect 4-0 in conference play this year and move to 6-2 on the road.
Senior Ashley Bull set the tempo for the afternoon affair, recording a Griffs single-game record of 12 draw controls, while adding three goals and three ground balls to her stat line.
After nearly eight minutes of scoreless action to begin the game, Bull got the scoring going for the Golden Griffins, putting home a goal off of a ground ball at 22:21 of the first.
The Griffs would then hit their stride, scoring the next six goals, for a 7-0 lead at 10:40. Bull would add her second of the day during the run, while Chad (2), Evans and juniors Lauren Smolensky and Allie Stewart also added markers.
Monmouth would get on the board at 7:40, on a goal by the Hawks leading scorer Olivia Higson, while Chad added a goal with less than a minute left before the half, to give the Blue and Gold an 8-1 lead at the break.
Reininger dominated the game out of the halftime break, scoring three goals in the first 3:20 of the half, extending her goal streak to 13 straight games.
Canisius would score nine consecutive goals through the first 22:30 of the second for a dominant 17-1 lead with 7:30 left to play. Reininger would notch her fourth goal of the day in the stretch, while Bull, Chad, Evans (2) and Stewart also added goals.
Over the last 4:43 of the game, Monmouth scored two of the final three goals to give the Golden Griffins the 18-3 win.
Junior goalkeeper Rebecca VanLaeken recorded the win in net for Canisius, making six saves, and moved to 9-4 overall. Riley Brager received the loss for the Hawks, moving to 3-8 on the year.
With the win, Canisius is now 9-4 overall, while Monmouth is now 4-9 on the year.
The Griffs will look to keep the conference success going when they travel to Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, for a 4 p.m. matchup against Marist.
