BUFFALO — Canisius women’s lacrosse player, Junior Erica Evans has been selected as the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, after an eight-point effort (6g, 2a) in the Griffs 18-9 win over Niagara University on Wednesday afternoon, the league announced today.

Evans was a force for the Blue and Gold, winning five draw controls against Alexandra Higgins (who ranks second in the MAAC), while also adding three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

After her six-goal performance, Evans took sole position of the NCAA lead for goals (66) and moved to second in points (91). The six goals were a season high for the midfielder, while her eight points tied a season high.

After this weekend’s games, Evans now ranks second in the NCAA in goals and is tied for third in the nation in points.

The award marks the fourth time the Peterborough, Ontario native has received the offensive honor this season.

Evans and the rest of the Canisius women’s lacrosse team will be back in action this Friday when they host Niagara in their 2017 MAAC Championship semifinal contest at 8 p.m. from the Demske Sports Complex.
