Aaron Slegers allowed one run over 8.1 innings and Zack Granite hit his first Triple-A home run as the Rochester Red Wings beat Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 2-1 to snap the RailRiders’ six-game winning streak Friday night at PNC Field.
Of the 25 outs Slegers (4-3) recorded, 17 came via groundouts. He scattered five hits and a walk while striking out two. The RailRiders (22-17) didn’t score until the 9th inning.
Granite’s first home run in Triple-A came off Chance Adams (1-1) leading off the 4th. The Red Wings (19-17) added to their lead in the 7th as Daniel Palka scored on a Matt Hague sacrifice fly.
Adams surrendered two runs on four hits while striking out five over 7.0 innings in his second Triple-A start.
Dustin Fowler led off the 9th with an automatic double and scored on Mike Ford‘s single two batters later. Drew Rucinski took over for Slegers with one out in the inning. Clint Frazier lined out to right for the second out but a wild pitch moved the tying run into scoring position. Rucinski struck out Mark Payton to earn his first career save.
The three-game series continues Saturday at 4:05 p.m.
