PRESS RELEASE

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) issued the following statement in response to a shooting this morning at a practice for the annual Congressional baseball game:

“We are thinking of our colleagues after a horrible attack on members of Congress, staff and Capitol Police and wishing all a full and speedy recovery.

“I’ve participated in the Congressional hockey games in the past and these fun-natured annual sporting events foster bipartisan comradery and help raise money for local and national charities.

“Our thanks go out to the Capitol Police, who bravely protect members, staff and visitors every day. They saved lives today.”

Additional Background:

  • The House of Representatives has cancelled votes for the day and postponed all committee meetings scheduled this morning.
  • The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) have indicated in a public statement that, “out of an abundance of caution, the USCP has deployed a robust police presence throughout the Capitol Complex.”
