CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
The Leicester Riders of the British Basketball League (BBL) recently announced that they have signed former Canisius guard Kiefer Douse to a professional contract. Douse becomes the 20th former Golden Griffin to sign a contract to play overseas since 2006.
Voted the team’s “Most Improved Player” for the 2016-17 season by his Canisius teammates, Douse played in all 34 games for the Griffs, where he made 33 starts. The Brampton, Ontario native ranked fourth on the team with his 10.9 points per game scoring average, and he closed out his final season in Blue and Gold by recording double-figures in the scoring column 18 times. Douse posted a career-high 22-point effort in the win at Saint Peter’s Feb. 6, and he ended the season with a scoring average increase of 7.7 points per game over his 2015-16 campaign, which was tops in the MAAC.
Douse grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game and shot 50.2 percent from the field, which ranked eighth in the MAAC. In his two years on Main Street, he averaged 7.4 points per game while shooting 47.1 percent from the field in 62 games played.
Leicester, Britian’s oldest professional basketball organization, won the BBL championship in 2017.
