The junior signal-caller was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after posting the greatest single-game performance in the conference history.
Anderson threw for a school-record 597 yards and seven touchdowns and added another touchdown on the ground in a 71-68 seven-overtime loss to Western Michigan on Saturday. Anderson’s 597 passing yards were not only a school record, but also the most for a single game in Mid-American Conference history. His seven touchdowns also tied the single-game MAC record. Anderson completed 35-of-61 pass attempts and didn’t throw a single interception. The junior quarterback had four completions of 53 yards or more in the game and threw touchdown passes of 64, 8, 54, 5, 25, 4 and 27 yards. He also added a 2-yard touchdown run in the sixth overtime to extend the game.
The national pundits took notice as well. Anderson was one of eight quarterbacks named Manning Award Stars of the Week. UB fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for Anderson as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Voting closes on Thursday at noon (EST).
Anderson was also named one of Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award’s “Great 8” performers for week six of the college football season.
Since entering the game just before halftime of UB’s contest against Florida Atlantic, Anderson has completed 53-of-88 passes for 848 yards, nine touchdowns and only one interception.
Anderson and the Bulls will be back in action on Saturday when they host Northern Illinois at 3:30 pm at UB Stadium.
