HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va.—Five Bengals scored in double-figures as visiting Buffalo State grabbed a 95-86 victory over host Hampden-Sydney today in the opening day of the Lucky Stone Holiday Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bryan Harrell (Rochester/Early College) and Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) led Buffalo State with 20 points apiece.
  • Sir.Quintin Campbell (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) added 17 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Malik Turner (New York/NIA Prep) poured in 18 points to go with five assists, and Mike Henry(Syracuse/West Genesee) added 14 points.
  • Buffalo State scored the first eight points of the game, but the host Tigers responded and took a 21-14 lead.
  • The Bengals battled back and evened the score at 41-41 at the intermission.
  • The lead changed back-and-forth in the second half.  Turner hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining to push a four-point edge to a seven-point lead and the Bengals closed out the win with their biggest lead of the game at nine points.
  • Buffalo State had a 48-36 scoring advantage in the paint and outrebounded the Tigers 44-36.
  • The Bengals outscored the Tigers 19-9 at the charity stripe, while Hampden-Sydney held a 39-24 advantage in scoring from beyond the arc.

 
FOR THE FOES

  • Kevin Quinn hit six 3-pointers and led the Tigers in scoring with 29 points.

 
NOTEWORTHY

  • Henry has 980 career points, putting him 20 points shy of becoming Buffalo State’s 24th 1,000-point scorer.
