CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius athletic department, in conjunction with ESPN, announced Wednesday that 19 fall home sporting events will be produced by the College’s Golden Griffin Broadcast Network for air on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
Of the 19 games that will be shown live on the ESPN family of networks, 11 will air exclusively on ESPN+. ESPN+ and the redesigned ESPN app were launched last April. For more information on the ESPN+ platform, CLICK HERE.
The first Canisius game to appear on ESPN platform will be the Golden Griffin women’s soccer team’s home opener this Friday, Aug. 24 against Robert Morris. In all, seven women’s soccer home dates will be on either ESPN3 or ESPN+, including the Blue and Gold’s annual “Battle of the Bridge” game against long-time rival Niagara. That contest will be played Oct. 10 at the Demske Sports Complex, with game time set for 7 p.m.
Three home Canisius men’s soccer games will be shown live on ESPN+, starting Sept. 22, when the Griffs host long-time rival St. Bonaventure in a non-league contest. Three other home dates for the Blue and Gold will be broadcast live on ESPN3, with the team’s first appearance on the digital platform set for Oct. 6, when Canisius hosts defending MAAC champion Fairfield at the Demske Sports Complex.
Six Canisius volleyball home matches will be available to watch on either ESPN3 or ESPN+, with the Griffs’ first broadcasted contest set for Sept. 22 when the team hosts Rider on ESPN3. In addition to the six home games, three road matches (at Marist Sept. 15, at Iona Sept. 29 and at Fairfield Nov. 11) will also be shown on the ESPN family of networks.
The 2018-19 academic year marks the fourth season of production efforts by Canisius, a collaborative effort between the athletic department and the College’s communications studies program. Since the program started in the fall of 2015, the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network has produced 163 live home games for distribution on ESPN3 and ESPN+.
