Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review. This time I bring to you the debut album by Infestuous called Unfathomable Mutagenic Abominations! The album dropped on April 17th, 2026 via Silent Pendulum Recordsand it absolutely rips.
I got wind of this album from one of the members making a post in their main bands fan Facebook page. Alan Cassidy from the almighty The Black Dahlia Murder is the drummer of this project and I love it. The other member is Matt Tluchowski from Doctor Smoke. When looking into this band I learned that this collaboration started with tracking in 2012, but they put it away until 2020 and then debuted it just a week ago(as of posting this).
The way this duo manages to switch between downright grimy sounding riffs to super sci-fi alien riffs is seriously impressive. I love how in either case the riffs are super angular, angry and agitating at all times. I also love how they aren’t afraid to even mix in some caveman riffs every now and then too!
There are very few moments of truly melodic relief in this maze of angry riffs. My favorite track, Flesh Unraveld, features one of those moments! At the :45 mark there is this guitar solo with this super slow, winding melody underneath that would make any classic melodeath band blush. The stark contrast from the section before with this angry tech death riff and caveman riff slowly brought in after is truly awesome to hear.
So overall this Unfathomable Mutagenic Abominations is super impressive for a debut album. This album is a 9.5/10 on my own personal ratings scale! This ripping album has been and will be replayed by myself for quite a while going forward.
