Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review! This time I am taking a look at Captives by Order of the Dead which was released on June 14th, 2025. These fellas are based out of my hometown of Rochester NY, so I instantly had to take a gander.

From the moment I started Captives, I knew I was going to like this album and band. The band describes themselves as “blackened, thrashy, melodic death metal” and I totally agree. The influence of all of those sub genres are in the forefront of all of their tracks. A great example is Pit of Snakes(my favorite track), it features this thrash inspired melodic riff for the first half of the track. Then towards the end of the track and solo they have this black metal-esque riff underneath!

So overall I’d give this album a very solid 8.5/10 for Captives. Certainly a very good effort and I’d love to hear more from Order of the Dead! As always don’t forget to stream, listen and buy this album if you love it like I do! Streaming and social links will be below!
