
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.07, up three cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.09. The New York State average is $3.12, up two cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.17. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.11 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.17 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.18 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
Gas prices moved slightly higher over the past week. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline went up by three cents to $3.07. The increase is partly due to refinery maintenance in California. When refineries pause production, gas prices in the region temporarily go up and that impacts the average across the country. Still, the national average remains lower than it was a year ago at this time and prices are on track to see little movement as we get closer to Thanksgiving.
This morning oil is trading in the $60-$64 range per barrel. According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand decreased from 8.92 million b/d last week to 8.87 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 210.7 million barrels to 206 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day.
Diesel prices are climbing. The national average is $3.74 – up 6 cents from last week. The New York average is $3.90, up 2 cents from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 37 cents. New York’s rate is 36 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
