The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.04, down one cent from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.10. The New York State average is $3.10, down one cent from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.19. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.12 (no change from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.15 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.16 (no change from last Monday)
As October ends, drivers are paying less than they were when the month began. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has fluctuated by a cent or two, remaining relatively quiet this past week. Although the national average has yet to reach the 3-dollar mark, gas prices have remained relatively low due to higher supply and lower demand. Heading into November, drivers may see gas prices continue to fall and perhaps even stay low over the busy Thanksgiving travel period.
This morning oil is trading in the $61-$65 range per barrel. According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand increased from 8.45 million b/d last week to 8.92 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 216.7 million barrels to 210.7 million. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
Diesel prices are stable. The national average is $3.68 – up 2 cents from last week. The New York average is $3.88, up 1 cent from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 38 cents. New York’s rate is 36 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
