NEWFANE — On Thursday, October 16th, 2025, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident on Lockport-Olcott Road near Hatter Road in the Town of Newfane. Callers advised that the vehicle’s operator was unresponsive and not breathing. Responding Deputies and members of the Miller Hose Volunteer Fire Company confirmed that the driver was unresponsive and began life saving measures including the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator. The driver was then transported by ambulance to Lockport Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Initial investigation by responding Deputies at the scene revealed that the seventy-four-year female driver was operating a 2014 Chevrolet southbound on Lockport-Olcott Road when, as witnesses described, the vehicle began to gradually slow and drift eastbound across the northbound lane of traffic. The vehicle exited off the east side of the roadway where it then struck the perimeter fencing of the Corwin Cemetery and came to rest against a tree. The vehicle sustained only superficial damage and it is believed that the driver suffered a medical issue precipitating the accident. The driver was the only vehicle occupant at the time of the incident.
The name of the driver involved is being withheld at this time pending notification to family.
