Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz issued a statement this afternoon, calling New York Attorney General Letitia James’ indictment on one count of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement to a financial institution “baseless, malicious and disgraceful.”
Poloncarz statement, in its entirety, said, “The indictment of State Attorney General Letitia James is baseless, malicious and disgraceful. This ongoing use of the Department of Justice to attempt to gain revenge against people who hold President Trump accountable is beyond outrageous.”
“General James was elected by the people of New York to prosecute individuals who break the law, even former presidents,” the statement continued. “I have had the honor to work with her on many occasions and she has always performed her job with integrity and class. I am confident this attempted prosecution will fail and be shown to be nothing more than another exercise in the shameless weaponization of the U.S. justice system.”
James is scheduled for an initial court appearance on October 24.
