
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.20, up one cent from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.27. The New York State average is $3.26, up eight cents from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.43. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.26 (up 5 cents from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.21 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.25 (up 6 cents from last Monday)
The national average for a gallon of regular gas is moving closer to where it was a year ago. After a summer that saw the lowest pump prices on average since 2021, prices have crept a few pennies higher over the last couple of weeks. This morning the national average is still seven cents lower than last year at this time.
New York prices are still well off where they were year ago despite an eight-cent jump over the last week. Motorists continue to enjoy the benefits of low oil prices which are helping to keep gas prices down. This morning oil is trading in the $63 to $66 range per barrel.
Diesel prices are also rising slightly. The national average is up one cent to $3.70 compared to last week. The New York average is $3.92, up two cents from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stands at 36 cents. New York’s rate is 35 cents. The state has approximately 12, 829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
