Hello Metalheads! This is John back with a track preview. This new band called Whalefall caught my ear a month or so ago with their first track called Ocean Garden. They have a second track Exile From the Deep is set to go live on Friday June 27th, 2025.
Whalefall might just be one of the more interesting “core” influenced projects to me in the last few years. Ocean Garden took a few listens for me to digest which is a great thing. They have this really unique style that literally sounds like you had a whale fall on you and drag you down to the bottom of the ocean. They leave so much room in their sound for pauses and gaps so the hard hitting heavy accents are so much more effective.
Exile From the Deep matches the intensity and style that Whalefall has from their first track. They have these progressive, experimental and dissonant qualities to their brand of thall sound. There is a break in the wall of sound that they create at the three minute mark that is so cool. They come off of this really groove heavy almost djent passage, the out of no where the only thing that we hear is the drummer. Then the guitars right after adding this atmospheric sound before a crushing breakdown comes back in, but the guitar remains overtop with this unsettling feeling.
So Whalefall have this awesome new track coming out, but they have also said they have an album coming out on Halloween this year(10/31/25)!!! I can’t wait to hear the rest of it!
