The Amherst Police Department would like to alert residents about a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the IRS. These messages reference “Economic Impact Payments” and direct recipients to click on a link to provide personal or financial information.
Important Reminder: The IRS does not send unsolicited text messages or emails requesting personal or financial information. Do not click on any links, respond to the message, or share sensitive information. If you receive such a message, please take the following steps:
1. Do not engage with the sender or click on any links.
2. Report the scam by forwarding the text message to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov.
3. Contact us to report the incident if you were a victim, call the Amherst Police Department at 716-689-1311.
