Today, April 26, 2024, marks the 107th anniversary of Sal Maglie’s birth.
One of the most influential athletes to come out of Western New York, Maglie grew up in the Italian community in Niagara Falls, attending Niagara Falls High School and Niagara University before a whirlwind of events that had him pitching in the World Series.
I grew up listening to stories about Sal Maglie from my dad … attending baseball games at Sal Maglie stadium … and with a souvenir signed Sal Maglie baseball (from my dad).
Maybe he’s only a big deal to me. But I thought I’d share this with you all anyway.
