The Niagara men’s soccer team (3-14-0, 1-8-0 MAAC) will conclude its 2018 campaign with a meeting at Marist tomorrow, October 31, at 4 p.m. The Purple Eagles are hoping to end their season on a high note despite having been officially eliminated from playoff contention on October 24 following a 3-0 loss at Quinnipiac.
Niagara Notes
- In their last game, the Purple Eagles were beaten by Iona, 1-0, on Senior Day. On Saturday, Niagara and the Gaels were scoreless entering the 90th minute before Iona broke through with 21 seconds to play to steal the win.
- The Purple Eagles are looking for their first goal in 274 minutes. Their last tally came when Mo Tshuma netted a goal in the 86th minute during a 4-1 loss to Saint Peter’s on October 13.
- Despite being outscored 2.00 goals per game to 0.88 goals per game, Niagara has yet to concede a goal off a corner kick this season. The Purple Eagles have scored twice off corner kick opportunities.
- Niagara leads the MAAC with four penalty kick goals and six penalty kick attempts.
Across The Pitch: Marist Red Foxes (6-5-4, 5-2-2 MAAC)
- Marist enters the game fourth in the MAAC standings with 17 points. With a win on Wednesday, the Red Foxes can leapfrog Iona – who is idle – for the third seed in the postseason tournament. Marist, Saint Peter’s (16 points) and Manhattan and Rider (15 points) are all in contention for the final three playoff spots.
- Marist is looking for their first victory in four outings. The team is 0-1-2 in their last three games with their most recent result a 1-0 loss to Quinnipiac. Their last win came against Manhattan, a 2-1 triumph on October 13.
- Through their first 15 games, they Red Foxes have only been assessed 20 yellow cards (second-fewest in the MAAC). However, their three red cards are tied for a conference high.
- Marist boasts a 16-8-1 all-time record against the Purple Eagles and comes into this season’s matchup on a four-game win streak. Niagara hasn’t beaten the Red Foxes since 2013, when they earned a 1-0 victory despite being outshot 22-10.
