Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review. Today I bring to you The Undertow of Hate by Eaten By Sharks which was released on July 17th, 2026.
This Canadian band really brings out the essence of their band name in a big way. From the opening moments of Vessels Torn I feel as though I’m out at sea. The boat is rocking with waves and sharks are just waiting for me when I listen to this album. Not only is their atmosphere incredible they couple technical aspects and old school death metal extremely well.
My favorite track from this new offering is Crimson Tide. It starts off with an uneasy guitar line with what sounds like water moving around. I always have a permanent brutal smirk on my face while this track is playing. Not only is the lyrical and vocal composition absolutely gross and disgusting, the groove of the track is brutal and chuggy. The constant chugging of the guitars is unsettling along with the dissonant harmonies they choose to adopt. The drumming also matches the uneasy feeling of the track with the rhythmic pacing! This is actually the final full track of the album and it shows what the band is all about.
I really enjoyed The Undertow of Hate immensely and would give this a 9/10 on my personal rating scale. As a newer listener to Eaten by Sharks it was really cool to hear what they are about. I will be going back to listen to their earlier albums and also keep this in my rotation for quite a while! As always go check this out! Links to socials and streaming are below!
