Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review! Psyclops is dropping their second full length Bound to Burn: Melody of the Martyr on May 22nd, 2026(TODAY!). I have covered two of the tracks already and I will be finalizing my thoughts about this album in this piece!
I have been sitting in this one for a little while now and have been chomping at the bit to be able to share this! Psyclops gave me this album way in advance and I am super grateful(seriously thanks guys!). What drew me to this band, aside from music of course, was the band saying this was for fans of Between the Buried, Coheed and Cambria and The Contortionist. They really managed to hook me in with that but also the way they show off all of the elements of the bands. The way this band managed to show off their death metal leaning chops as well as show their prog chops together in multiple tracks and is really impressive.
I also really like how the story is tied together with the music in perfect harmony. You can feel the emotion of the main character in Consequences I-III which I covered https://technicalmusicreview.com/2026/03/20/consequences-i-iii-by-psyclops/ . There is also a full length graphic novel that covered every song word for word so you can follow along and get more of the world they are describing.
So overall I’d give this album a 10/10 in my personal rankings! Bound to Burn Melody of the Martyr is one hell of a switch up from Psyclops from their previous album, but they fucking nailed it. I typically don’t swear in my reviews but this is warrants it for sure. This is quite easily the front runner for my album of the year and will have a hard time being unseated. My only complaint is that I wish could keep listening when it ends, this album is THAT good. As always don’t forget to listen, stream and even buy the music!
