Hello Metalheads! This is John back with another album review. This time I have an album that completely went unnoticed in all of my listening and searching for new music last year. Lunar released Tempora Mutantur on January 31st, 2025. Im super mad I didn’t see this anywhere in my typical places that I look for recommendations and people talking about prog.
Lunar really surprised the hell out of me as soon as I started listening. This new album does some pretty serious genre shifts really well and suddenly, which I love to hear. My brain and ears were constantly perking up on my first listen and even beyond. The fist instant of this is on the opening track A Summer to Forget. The opening is this groovy riff with an almost funky feel to it. The strange tone the vocalist uses to convey this contributes to this feeling as well. The guitarists turn on their distortion as they turn this funk groove in and out of death metal for a few minutes! This continues into a straight up thrash and death metal groove that shows off some serious chops from the whole band!
So basically if you like your prog mixed with all kinds of interesting genres and death metal chops, Lunar is for you! In my ranking system I would give Tempora Mutantur a 8.5/10! Easily the best album I missed last year and I’ll be kicking myself for a while for it. As always don’t forget to check this band out, stream their music and even buy it if you love it.
