The Niagara County Legislature held its annual reorganizational meeting last night, unanimously electing Michael A. Hill as its new Chairman, succeeding Becky Wydysh who did not seek re-election to the Legislature.  Hill, 54, is currently the longest-tenured legislator, having first been elected in 2005.

Hill represents the 15th Legislative District, which includes the towns of Hartland, Royalton and part of the Town of Lockport.  He is a resident of Hartland and a lifelong resident of the district he represents.  He is the second graduate of Roy-Hart High School to ever serve as Chairman of the Legislature, following Gerald Meal, who held the position over 25 years ago, and is also a graduate of SUNY Niagara.

“It is my honor to become Chairman of the Legislature and I will do my best to lead this body with civility and transparency as we conduct the business of the people of Niagara County,” said Hill.  “As a legislator, my top priority has always been to deliver the services our residents need and expect in the most fiscally responsible manner possible and that will continue.”

Legislator Tony Nemi was elected as Vice Chairman, Randy Bradt was elected by the Majority Caucus as Majority Leader and Jeffrey Elder was elected by the Minority Caucus as Minority Leader.

The Legislature also announced its 2025 meeting dates, which can be found at niagaracounty.gov; selected the Niagara Gazette and Lockport Union Sun & Journal as the county’s official newspapers; and announced chairs of each of the standing committees:

  • Administration: Legislator David Godfrey
  • Community Services:  Legislator Jesse Gooch
  • Community Safety & Security: Legislator Chris McKimmie
  • Economic Development: Legislator Rich Andres
  • Infrastructure & Facilities: Legislator Shawn Foti
