Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Iyanna R. Scott, 22, of Buffalo, was sentenced on Friday morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller. Scott received a determinate sentence of 15 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
On Sunday, May 19, 2024, at approximately 5:22 p.m., the defendant drove to a car wash on the 2200 block of Walden Avenue in the Town of Cheektowaga with two male passengers. While outside of the business, the defendant and one of the men were involved in an argument. When the defendant began to engage in a physical altercation, both men walked away from her, traveled a short distance westbound on Walden Avenue then proceeded toward Union Road.
The defendant, while operating a Hyundai Elantra, followed the men then accelerated the vehicle in their direction as they walked across Union Road. One victim was hit by the defendant’s car. The victim, 21-year-old Demario Patterson, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he later died from the injuries. The defendant drove away from the scene without reporting the incident to police. The vehicle was later found on Briscoe Avenue in the City of Buffalo.
In November 2025, Scott pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class B violent felony). She entered a guilty plea to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.
DA Keane commends the Cheektowaga Police Department Accident Investigation Unit and the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Christine O. Murray and Christopher M. McCarthy of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
