
LOCKPORT — Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti announces the arrest of 40-year-old Megan L. Brant of Amherst, under the Leandra’s Law statute.
On November 29th, 2025, Niagara County Sheriff’s Deputies observed Brant operating a motor vehicle on South Transit Road near Tonawanda Creek in the Town of Lockport. Deputies performed a traffic stop on the vehicle for failure to signal a lane change, and it pulled into the parking lot of the New York Beer Project located at 6933 South Transit Road.
Upon interview it was discovered that Brant, the vehicle’s operator, was showing signs of intoxication. Additionally, Brant was found to have two children in the vehicle, both eight years of age. Following Field Sobriety testing, Brant was subsequently arrested and was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law violation), two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Failure to Signal, Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Improper License Plates and No Safety Inspection.
The children were placed in the care of a family friend that responded to the scene of the traffic stop. Brant was remanded to the Niagara County Jail pending her arraignment in Niagara County Central Arraignment Part Court.
