
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.07, no change from last Monday. One year ago, the price was also $3.07. The New York State average is $3.13, up one cent from last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.15. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:
- Batavia – $3.12 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
- Buffalo – $3.17 (no change from last Monday)
- Rochester – $3.17 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
Gas prices held steady at the national level over the past week at $3.07, which is the same price drivers were paying one year ago. This morning oil is trading in the $59-$63 range per barrel. According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline demand decreased slightly.
Demand is expected to increase as Thanksgiving approaches. AAA projects 73.3 million people will travel by car, which is nearly 90 percent of Thanksgiving travelers. That figure could end up being higher if air travelers experience cancelled flights or choose to drive to avoid airports. This year, AAA projects an additional 1.3 million travelers on the road compared to last Thanksgiving but that number could rise amid airport concerns.
Diesel prices continue to increase. The national average is $3.77 – up three cents from last week. The New York average is $3.90, no change from last week.
When it comes to EV charging, the national and state averages for L2 commercial electricity remain steady. Today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station is 39 cents. New York’s rate is 37 cents. The state has approximately 12,829 chargers. An estimated 1.2 million AAA members live in households with one or more electric vehicles.
To conserve fuel, motorists should map routes, avoid peak traffic times like rush hour, and combine errands into one trip while using cruise control when possible. Drivers should also make sure tire pressure is at the vehicle’s recommended level for the best gas mileage while removing any unnecessary and bulky items from the car since it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
