One of extreme metal’s best hidden secrets VoidCeremony has released their latest album “Abditum” this past Friday November 14th. It was released on their record label 20 Buck Spin. I’ve been a fan of this band for a minute since their 2020 album “Entropic Reflections Continuum: Dimensional Unravel”. The band has progressively (no pun intended) gotten better every release without sacrificing their sound or style. “Abditum” is the culmination of that over 9 tracks at a 30 minute experience. It included a few well placed interludes, giving it a great pace. Prog records can get a little tedious for fans that don’t always listen to the genre. And those few interludes help break that up.

VoidCeremony is still the heavy and kooky band they’ve been known to be. There’s a plethora of melody, wicked guitar solos and guitar harmonies. They fit in a lot of interesting parts on “Abditum” that you revisit every time through. You pick up on more things every time. It’s an ethereal record that transcends space and time.

The production is good especially the levels in the mix. While the vocals are prominent like your average mix, everything can audibly be heard. The album heavily relies on the rhythm section with the abundance of mood changes and speed changes. The group is tight and polished that’s put out their finest hour. If you thought “Threads Of Unknowing” was a good album, you’ll enjoy this new album even more. Give it a listen on any streaming service and put it to the test.
